Turtle Bay Marine Park

The Marine Park

The Grand Mauritian coastline is adjacent to one of the only two marine nature parks in Mauritius. The Marine Park, bordered by a reef running the length of the hotel coastline, is full of indigenous fish including star fish, grouper fish, grunt fish, lion fish, angel fish, and cat fish. There is also an abundance of coral, mostly Black Coral.

Snorkelling

We recommend that you take part in organised snorkelling trips, which can be arranged by the Boat House/diving centre  at the north of our resort. It is also possible to arrange diving with our boat house and to visit deeper parts of the ocean under professional and qualified supervision.

Conservation Area

As the wild life beneath can easily be disturbed by boats, all water sports such as our waterskiing take place outside of the boundaries of the marine park itself.

Swimming & Paddling

We have indicated a bathing area with yellow marker buoys (see main map) which is easier to access. However as the coral that breaks from the reef can sometimes be sharp, it is recommend to wear reef shoes wherever possible when walking and swimming.

The Marine Park contains, as does the whole of the Indian Ocean, some varieties of fish and sea urchins that maybe poisonous if stepped on or touched. As a precaution it is advisable to watch where you walking.

Should you be stung by any creature please seek medical attention at once.  For immediate assistance please contact a member of our staff.  Emergency telephones are also located at each swimming pool area.
